I guess it is time for me to update this thing. Most everyone else has more going on than me, good or bad, so I never have much to say.

Ummm....

We started putting up the Christmas tree today.

Money sucks.

I have two weekends left here before I have to be gone for nearly a week.

It sucks that we'll have to board the dogs over Christmas, speaking of...should call about that.

Umm...I have some grad classes I have to take or I lose my teaching license (well basically mine expires in June and I need the classes to get a new one). People don't like responding to my emails about how am I supposed to take the field experience with the middle school class when the class is offered in the summer but I can't do a field experience then. Really wish someone would give me some information here.

I've been getting pretty decent subbing but nothing compares to a full time teaching job...I would like one of them, and soon please.

I don't post political stuff...umm...ever, because it serves little purpose. However, this is related to politics, but not political opinions.

I heard this before but now also read it as a note on someone's facebook - there is a big hullabaloo right now related to Barack Obama producing his birth certificate because they don't believe he was born in Hawai'i and may have been born in Kenya instead. Therefore, it is believed that he is not a natural born citizen...

I have a problem with this logic. Even if he was born in Kenya, he is still a natural born citizen because his mother was a citizen who lived in the country for more than 5 years (with at least 2 of them when she was older than 14...), therefore he was a citizen of the U.S. at birth. While natural born is not a clearly defined term, you are either natural born or naturalized and he is not naturalized....

See letter G... http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode08/usc_sec_08_00001401----000-.html

at least, that is my interpretation of the law.

Oh, and for some other interesting reading regarding this idea of "natural born" citizens which some are interpreting as "born on American soil," read this: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/28/us/politics/28mccain.html

Subject:To do list...
Time:12:29 pm.
Just because...

My to do list today...with some helpful hints for those of you who want to do things the extra special way like me.

1. Get up, feed dogs.
2. Clean out cat carrier
*note that it has been sitting outside since we got Carlile...because he had a nervous pooping habit and managed to get it all over the inside...*
3. Wrangle cats.
4. Take cats to vet.
*to be extra special here, you should leave out the back door since you caught the cats in the garage and be sure to leave the front door wide open, just for fun.*
5. Wait at vet. Get name called, go in room.
*note how socially inept the vet is*
*note that they got 4 shots out when cats are only supposed to be getting two*
*don't say anything that you only wanted them to get rabies, not distemper*
*thank goodness that the vet decides we shouldn't worry about worming the cats...*
6. Go home. Let cats out.
7. Leave again to continue errands, starting with filling up gas tank in car.
*make sure to pick the pump that doesn't seem to work right at first*
*stand there for a few minutes not paying attention, then look at the pump and realize in all that time it has only pumped 1/3 of a gallon of gas*
8. Drop title and check off at car dealership for Karen's pickup which is being sold to her sister as a "pass-through." Notice either of the two people who would know what you are talking about are busy so have to deal with other guy who doesn't know much about what is going on.
9. Go to Walmart.
*Get wrapping paper and gift bag like you are supposed to. Even remember tissue paper. Forget gift boxes*
10. Realize you are supposed to be scheduling hours at 11 but you're still 40 miles away from your computer.
11. Go home, schedule hours.
12. Leave again, drop off payment for newspaper subscription to save stamp.
13. Go to post office, send insurance paperwork, buy stamps.
14. Go to Pamida to get gift boxes. Wander around the whole store. Don't find any gift boxes.
15. Leave. Get behind a car that is going 15 mph, just for fun.
16. Go to drugstore. Realize they are moving locations, so don't feel enthusiastic going in.
*find wrapping paper you like better and best yet, gift boxes that are marked down to 75 cents for the 3 pack!*
*leave feeling like you should have just gone there in the first place.*
17. Let dogs out.
*see loser neighbor talking to his friend who is riding a bike (probably because he doesn't have a license or something) in the alley. Realize yet again that neighbor is more of a loser than we are because at least we aren't home all the time.

That is how far I've gotten, sounds like I've been productive...

Things that make little sense...

I was scheduled to tutor from 12-2. I was available. There were no students the majority of the time. I got one request, however, it was in the one minute I had to take Schroeder outside to go potty. Then, with 5 minutes left in my shift, I got a session. That lasted an entire hour. It was done at 3. Well, I'm also scheduled to tutor 3-5 today (and 6-7). Now...15 minutes...sitting here...no kids waiting.

A bit funny how the timing worked out. But I guess...I get paid for sitting here (like $5/hour) or I get paid for tutoring (like $11/hour) so...I still got the $10 for sitting there for 2 hours, plus the $11 for an hour of tutoring.

But at least the dogs are asleep now.

The garbage truck goes past about 3 million times on trash day.

That is about 2.9 million times too many.

They actually picked up trash that fell out of the can. I was surprised.

Today was a nice day. We've had some unseasonably warm weather this week, like 40s and 50s. Today it even rained, not snowed. It was just brief too, and we got to see a pretty rainbow. A double rainbow even.

Photobucket

As we drove to get supper, it got even brighter.

Photobucket

Pretty, don't you think? Taken with my phone, so not the best pictures. And...I think that is the first time we've seen the ground since...Christmas.

All in all a good day. Now if only people could learn to shut up...heh.

Sometimes, our old management company really pisses me off.

Because you see, in Minnesota, there is a property tax rebate, and the management company was required to send a letter about how much property tax we had paid. By the 31st.

I didn't get one, neither did Karen. So I emailed them.

Well, she emailed me a copy back, saying that one had been sent and it hadn't been returned to them...

With my name spelled wrong. It isn't Riser...

I emailed back to check what address they sent it to, and inquire on Karen's too. And point out they spelled my name wrong.

I get this response

"Karen’s did come back and I did forward hers on to her correct address. But I have not idea what address yours was sent out to. I know it had not come back, and we are only required if we do not have a forwarding address on file to send to the last known address. But Karen’s did get mailed back out."

Yeah...hers came today. They sent it to, I kid you not, "111th Street" like they've tried to send most other things. Really...no house number or anything, apparently we take up the whole damn street.

But she doesn't know where mine went because there is no forwarding address? Both of our forwarding addresses are the same...

It isn't a big deal, because I have the pdf of it...but fucking a it just gets old how incompetent they seem. Last year, my name was spelled right so clearly they have the right spelling somewhere.

Time:12:07 pm.
I think I'd like to just document the whole drama with our old "property management" company at the townhouse. I don't need to talk about it but in retrospect...wow.

So...we moved out at the end of July/beginning of August. We were definitely out of the place by mid August, though they said that we had to pay through the end of September unless someone moved in. We paid rent for August, but not September, which was good. All the bills were changed over on the 7th, as we stopped actually residing there on about the 5th.

Yet a few weeks ago, we got an unsigned letter from them saying we owed like $650. That was including the $400 security deposit that they'd already taken deductions from.

We thought that was crazy. They didn't send a breakdown of any of the charges. So...Karen made maaany phone calls to them. We got a somewhat broken down list. They were charging us a full month of rent, even though we knew that in the middle of September, someone was living there. Plus they were charging us for some electric bill. $80 in damages doesn't seem so terrible, but it was over $200 to get the carpets cleaned. I imagine they tried to reclean stains that they tried to clean last time and couldn't get rid of.

So, after talking with people (apparently the woman who used to handle our place had left the company) the new woman found out someone had infact moved in in the middle of the month. So, the amount we owed dropped to like $330 or something like that. But we were still paying some $90 electric bill.

So Karen calls again. The woman has to call about the electric bill and the dates on it. Well, in the mail today the explanation comes. Turns out we already paid the electric bill, except for like 3 days of it. So instead of a $90 bill, we have to pay like $9. Oh but then they realized there was a $15 electric bill from August-September that we're technically responsible for too. So...eh.

But it just makes you realize...at first I thought they were worse than Sally with deducting everything...but then with endless calls, the amount is down to like $250. Which...seems a lot nicer. But had Karen not called, they would have just charged us all that money, gotten paid twice for rent in September...pocketed the electric bill money probably...

I said at the beginning...I felt like writing a letter to the city. They are the ones who actually own the building we lived in, this other company just manages it. So...they would have pocketed that money with the city none the wiser probably. It shouldn't have taken that many phone calls to get everything straightened out. And I never did get a copy of that lease...

Time:9:11 am.
Sunday...I was in three different time zones. I got to see the Rocky Mountains. Right at sunset. It was pretty.

I did not like the flight to Denver though. I think I prefer the one hour flight to Chicago rather than the 3+ hour flight to Denver. I may have had a little emotional issues in Denver cause I just wanted to be home. But then I got on my plane to Sioux Falls and the baggage came off quickly and I made it home by like 11:45 that night.

Yesterday morning when the phone rang, I was half incoherent I think and...decided more sleep and whatnot seemed better than rushing in to work for a few hours. So we stayed in bed. A few hours later she called and asked if I had gotten more sleep, and lined me up for some more days this week. So seems there was no loss there.

So...my trip to Pittsburgh was busy but good. Got to meet new fun people. I think that is a little odd because at a wedding, you spend a few days with these people and get to know them...and then you'll probably never see them again. Kind of odd. Wedding was good though. Got to ride in a limo. And get my hair did. Heh, I like using that bad grammar, for whatever reason I find it funny. Never had either one of those experiences before.

I had to rely on lots of people for rides and I thank them for that. Especially Jenn's parents who got me back to the airport on Sunday because I was worried about that at first.

So now...I'm home. Sitting on the couch watching Ellen. Heh.
